Blackwell, Sr., who passed away November 23, 2009 will be held Friday November 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Rev. B.R. Wallace will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday November 25, 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Blackwell was born in Lancaster a daughter of the late Robert & Alma Harper Evans. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters: Gail (Rev. Geneva Watkins Ward - November 22, 2009

Geneva Watkins Ward, 88, widow of John William Ward, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 in Kershaw County.

Born in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Leon Watkins and the late Tincy Viola Steen Watkins.

Survivors include three granddaughters, Rose Branham Blackwell (Robert) and Theresa Branham Walters (Gene), both of Bishopville, and Rebecca Branham Scheffer (James) of Lugoff; four great-grandchildren, Theresa Blackwell Gladden, Robert Blackwell II, Ana Elizabeth Jenkinson, and John William Jenkinson, III; two brothers, George Watkins and Rev. Marion Watkins, both of Rembert; and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ward Cain; and three brothers, Harvey Watkins, Samuel Watkins, and Billy Watkins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Piedmont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home.

Lenora Timmons Hall - November 19, 2009

Lenora Timmons Hall, 89, widow of Chester A. Hall, Sr. died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at a local nursing facility.

Born in Cowards, SC she was a daughter of the late Nellie Cockfield Timmons and the late Henry Timmons. Mrs. Hall was a member of First Baptist Church in Bishopville.

Survivors include a son, Chester A. "Artie" Hall, Jr. (Susan) of Nicaragua; a daughter, Karen H. Whitehead (Howard) of St. Helena Island; two granddaughters, Anna H. Duval (John) of New York, NY and Elizabeth Hall of Boston, MA; a sister Parnace Stearns of Titusville, FL; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stacey.

Graveside services will be held a 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Piedmont Cemetery with the Rev. Chester A. "Artie" Hall, Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends anytime at the home, 102 Jones Circle, Bishopville.

Dorothy Mozingo Stuckey - November 12, 2009

Bishopville, S.C. Graveside services for Dorothy Mozingo Stuckey, age 95, widow of Alfred Crosswell Stuckey, Sr., who passed away November 12, will be held Sunday at 2:00 pm at Mt. Elon Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Mrs. Stuckey was born in Lee County a daughter of the late Hugh Lee & Bessie Rawls Mozingo. She was active in Church & Civic affairs, was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ruth Faith Sunday School Class and a mission group. She served on the Lee County Council on Aging, Board of Social Services, Zoning Board, Board of Education, was a Life member of  the Board of Lee County Senior Apartments. She was retired from Banking after 32 years of Service. Surviving are 1 son, Alfred Crosswell (Freddy) Stuckey, Jr., Sumter, 3 Grandchildren, David R. (Christa) Kelley, Bishopville, Alfred C. Ronald Lynn "Ronnie" McCaskill - November 7, 2009

Funeral services for Ronald Lynn (Ronnie) McCaskill, age 55, who passed away Nov. 7, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Norton Funeral Chapel Home. Rev. Will Cline will officiate. Burial will be in the Mizpah Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home. Ronnie was born in Camden, a son of John C. McCaskill and the late Doris Davis McCaskill. Surviving are his father of Bishopville, Brothers: Johnny & Donnie McCaskill, Bishopville, Nephew, Todd McCaskill, Camden, Nieces, Robin Boykin, Bishopville, Carla Jean Watson, Lugoff. Thomas Herbert Alexander - November 6, 2009

Thomas Herbert Alexander, 78, husband of Mary Oeland Alexander, died Friday, November 6, 2009 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born in Bishopville, he was a son of the late William Ray Alexander and the late Mary Richardson Kennedy Alexander. Mr. Alexander was a 1955 graduate of Presbyterian College where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and ordered to report to Fort Benning, GA. He then went on to graduate in Army Aviation and received his wings in 1956 at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

After serving three years on active duty in California, he returned to S.C. and joined the National Guard. He retired as a Brigadier General in 1989, completing his years of military service. During his years with the guard, he served as Commander of the 51^st Aviation Assault Helicopter Company, Commander of the 51^st M.P. Battalion, Commander of Troop Command, and Assistant Adjutant General. In 1989, he received the Order of Palmetto at the time of his retirement.

Mr. Alexander was a lifetime member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he served through the years in different capacities. He was chairman of the Official Board, chairman of the Finance Committee, Lay Leader, and Sunday school teacher in the Joe Fanning Sunday School Class where he was a member. He was active in the Lions Club since joining in 1966 where he served as past president.

He served as president of Stuckey and Alexander Insurance Company in Bishopville. He was on the Bishopville City Council for 16 years and served as Mayor of Bishopville from 1991 until his death. He served on the Board of Directors of the S.C. Municipal Association, the Board of Directors of the S.C. Downtown Development Association, Chairman of the Santee Lynches Council of Governments, and Vice Chairman of the Board of the Wateree Community Action, Inc. In years previous to this he served as Lee County Chairman of the S.C. Tri-Centennial Committee, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Democratic Party, Chairman of the Library Board, Chairman of the Lee County Hospital Board, and was designated by the Jaycees in 1967 as “Outstanding Young Man of the Year” for Lee County.

Survivors besides his wife include three children, Edward M. Alexander (Donna R.), Martha Alexander Houser (Ronnie), and Mary Kay Alexander Kaufman (Tim); a grandson, Timothy Williams Kaufman; three granddaughters, Kaylen Elizabeth Houser, Caroline Elizabeth Alexander, and Martha Alexander Kaufman; two brothers, William Ray Alexander and James K. Alexander (Ida); a sister, Adria Alexander Belk; and fifteen nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas H. Alexander, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Paul Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hancock-Elmore-Funeral Home and other times at the home.
